Area and Perimeter – Notes, MCQs, Quiz & Worksheet

Overview

What is Area and Perimeter?

Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a shape. You can find it by adding the lengths of all its sides. It tells you how long the boundary of the shape is.

Area is the amount of space inside a shape. It tells you how much surface the shape covers.

For example, imagine a garden. The perimeter is the length of the fence needed to go around the garden, while the area is the amount of land inside the fence.

In simple words:
Perimeter = Distance around a shape
Area = Space inside a shape
