Answer

An airplane wing is designed so that air flowing over the curved top surface travels a longer distance than air flowing under the flatter bottom surface. This causes the air over the top to speed up, resulting in lower pressure (Bernoulli's principle). The slower-moving air underneath creates higher pressure. The difference in pressure between the bottom and top of the wing creates an upward force called lift, pushing the plane into the air.
