Photosynthesis in Science

Photosynthesis is the way plants make their own food.
Plants use sunlight, water, and a gas from the air called carbon dioxide to make a kind of sugar, which gives them energy to grow.
This happens mostly in the leaves, in small parts called chloroplasts that have a green color because of something called chlorophyll.
When plants do photosynthesis, they also give out oxygen into the air — and that's the oxygen we breathe!
In short:
Plants + sunlight + water + carbon dioxide ---------> food (sugar) + oxygen.
Photosynthesis is very important because it helps plants live, and it also helps animals and people by giving us food and fresh air.
This process is essential for life on Earth, as it provides the oxygen we breathe and forms the basis of the food chain.
